The authors analyze several finite element approximations to study the deformation of a pressurized film by continuation in temperature as the film is cyclically cooled and heated following by a nearly rectangular hysteresis in the deformation. An analysis of the convergence of the finite element approximation is given, and numerical results on a thin film model for martensitic crystals are presented.
