In this sixth edition, corresponding to the new MATLAB 6.1 package, the modifications consist in (1) avoiding loops with a find command, (2) newly developed examples, (3) a presentation of the MATLAB Desktop Environment (for visualization), (4) a new chapter on how to call a C routine from MATLAB, (5) ways for handling sparse matrices. The fifth edition from 1998 has been reviewed (Zbl 0896.93002).
