The authors employ techniques from differential geometry to provide an answer to the following open problem: What is the maximal order of differentiability of the first integrals on a canonical region of a given two-dimensional flow in function of the order of differentiability of the flow? Other results for planar and homogeneous polynomial differential systems are obtained.
