Gauss' \textit{Theoria motus} was published by Perthes in Hamburg and so the author came to the idea to look for the Perthes' legacy in Hamburg archives. She was succesful and found many hitherto unknown letters to and from Gauss and on Gauss. The letters disclosed influence of Laplace and so the author also searched in Göttingen university archives finding Gauss' letters to and from Laplace, Delambre, Legendre and Lagrange, many unknown. All these findings are in the book transcribed, reproduced and supplied with adequate comments, thus offering a new insight upon Gauss and his work. A good historical work.
