The booklet contains three essays devoted to ``elementary'' problems of mechanics. In a lovely manner the author introduces mathematical formulations of phenomena that are known to everybody but are related with nontrivial mechanical ideas. Interpreting the solutions obtained, the author demonstrates some new and even paradoxical properties of oscillations, friction, and equilibrium of mechanical systems. The booklet is intended for secondary school and undergraduate students.
