Existence, uniqueness, and parametrization of Lagrangian invariant subspaces (English)
0 references
This paper extends known conditions for the existence of Lagrangian invariant subspaces (LIS's) of a Hamiltonian matrix and, as a consequence, gives a complete parametrization of all possible LIS's as well as necessary and sufficient conditions for the uniqueness of LIS's. These results almost immediately entail some necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of Hermitian solutions of algebraic Riccati equations.
