Let \(X\) be a non-singular, irreducible and projective algebraic curve over an algebraically closed field \(k\) of characteristic \(p\) and \(\Aut(X)\) be its group of automorphisms. The author gives an upper bound on the order of elements of \(\Aut(X)\) for curves satisfying at least one of the following conditions:NEWLINENEWLINENEWLINE1. \(X\) is an \(m\)-sheeted covering of exactly one curve of genus \(\gamma\), where \(m\) is prime,NEWLINENEWLINENEWLINE2. the center of \(\Aut (X)\) is non-trivial.
