Fuzzy logic. Implementation and application (English)

This book is an edited volume focusing mainly on fuzzy control. It consists of four parts: Theory, Fuzzy Logic Control, Fuzzy Logic Hardware Implementations, and Hybrid Systems Applications. NEWLINENEWLINENEWLINEThe first part contains only one paper written by \textit{D. Dubois} and \textit{H. Prade} (Fuzzy Sets in Approximate Reasoning: a Personal View). It is an overview of a few approximate reasoning methods (graduality and similarity based reasoning, interpolative and qualitative reasoning, default reasoning and abduction).NEWLINENEWLINENEWLINEThe second part, devoted to fuzzy control, seems to be most interesting. It contains three papers written by \textit{G. Vachtsevanos} and \textit{S. Farinwata} (Fuzzy Logic Control: A Systematic Design and Performance Assessment Methodology), \textit{R. Palm} (On the Compatibility of Fuzzy Control and Conventional Control Techniques) and \textit{WuZhi Quiao} and \textit{M. Mizumoto} (On the Crisp-type Fuzzy Controller: Behaviour Analysis and Improvement). All of them give the reader a good idea about what is fuzzy control and its relation to classical control (it is argued that fuzzy control can be viewed as improved sliding mode control). Furthermore, they provide the reader also with an up-to-date analysis of its performance, robustness and stability.NEWLINENEWLINENEWLINEThe third part deals with hardware implementation problems of fuzzy logic. The reader will find here the papers by \textit{M. J. Patyra} (Design Considerations of Digital Fuzzy Logic Controllers), \textit{J. L. Grantner} (Parallel Algorithm for Fuzzy Logic Controller), \textit{K. Ozawa, K. Hirota} and \textit{L. T. Koczy} (Fuzzy Flip-flop), \textit{L. Lemaitre} (Design Automation of Fuzzy Logic Circuits). The fourth part contains two papers. The first written by \textit{H.-N. L. Theodorescu} and \textit{T. Yamakawa} (Neuro-fuzzy Systems: Hybrid Configurations) discusses combination of fuzzy logic and neural networks and introduces the concept of neuro-fuzzy system. The last paper is written by \textit{D. J. Ostrowski} and \textit{P. Y. K. Cheung} (A Fuzzy Logic Approach to Handwriting Recognition). The main feature characteristics of the handwritten letters are considered and then elaborated using fuzzy set concepts.NEWLINENEWLINENEWLINEThe book is very well organized and most of the papers are concise, written in a clear style by outstanding scholars. It is very informative for those who want to learn the state of the art in fuzzy control, its hardware implementation problems and some related topics.
