Information and coding theory (Q2785495)

This book is an introductory text to information and coding theory for computer science students. It contains basic facts on source and channel encoding, channels, information transmission and block codes for error correction. The text is intended for students with only a basic knowledge in mathematics. Each section contains examples and problems related to its topic. If one compares the present book to Heise and Quattrocchi's recent German textbook [\textit{W. Heise} and \textit{P. Quattrocchi}, Informations- und Codierungstheorie, 3rd ed., Springer-Verlag, Berlin (1995; Zbl 0860.94001)], one readily observes that the text by Heise and Quattrocchi is not only more comprehensive, but attracts also by its mathematical rigour.
