This school textbook -- augmented by a program diskette -- intends to help mathematics teachers to familiarize students with computers by introducing them to the world of patterns and ornaments generated by iterated systems of functions.NEWLINENEWLINENEWLINEThe mathematical requirements for this course are relatively minor: some knowledge about vector algebra and mappings in the plane is all that is needed. NEWLINENEWLINENEWLINEThe text introduces the student to complex numbers, different mappings, iterated systems of functions, self-similarity, fractal dimensions, etc. The second half of the book then describes the computer program, the ways to generate patterns and ornaments and introduces the student to invent his/her own patterns. It ends with a problem section (with solutions) where students are asked to create a given pattern. Program and examples are contained on the included diskette. System requirements: IBM compatible, MS-DOS version 4 or higher.
