Principles of transaction processing (English)
0 references
The book describes the notion of transaction processing in a very accessible way. A transaction processing system is a possibly distributed server to which requests can be sent to carry out certain tasks (e.g. account managing at a bank). First this book addresses several ways to send the requests (e.g. RPC, queues). Then it addresses ways to guarantee that even in a distributed setting the handling of requests appears serializable. The primary way for doing so is the two phase commit protocol. Finally, the book deals with ways to increase availability of the system, to recover from crashes and to handle multiple copies of some data element. Throughout the book there are many examples of actual transaction processing systems.
