This book, part of a popular series of over five hundred titles, covers the history and science of measurement, with chapters on measurement in the physical sciences, the life sciences and medicine, the behavioral sciences, and the social sciences. The author (who also wrote the series' volume on ``Statistics'') is clearly very knowledgeable about many aspects of metrology, and writes in a clear and engaging manner.NEWLINENEWLINEThe book is aimed at the intelligent nonspecialist, and could be read with advantage by most people with some interest in the topic. In particular, it should be in school and public libraries; and its low price means that it can easily be on private bookshelves. It would be particularly suitable for teenagers considering a career in the natural, behavioral, or social sciences.
