The aim of the present paper is to illuminate the process of change in perspective inherent in the `new' algebra of Emmy Noether. The new core concepts like fields, rings, and ideals were already provided by Dedekind. The author's line of thought is the conceptual perspective (begriffliche Perspektive) in mathematics as revealed in the works of Dedekind, Noether, and van der Waerden.
