Comments by Giordano Bruno regarding the \textit{mirabile problema}, regarding the relationship between an asymptote to a curve and the curve (an ancient problem going back to Euclid's \textit{Elements} II. 14 and Apollonius) are being set in their historical context. In particular, the author looks for possible sources for Bruno's awareness of the problem and the commentaries.
