The author is well known for his lifelong interest in puzzles and recreational mathematics. Over the years, he has collected an impressive number of books on these topics, and the present volume brings a selection of 221 problems from his vast collection.NEWLINENEWLINEThe problems are divided into 15 chapters; some of them are purely mathematical (such as arithmetic puzzles, alphametics, magic figures, properties of digits), but the book also includes other types of puzzles such as geographic, physical or verbal problems. In any case, all problems are elementary and accessible to nonmathematicians.NEWLINENEWLINEThe collection contains many delightful and enjoyable problems that are either original or taken from old books, which are no longer easily accessible. I especially like the detailed solutions, which make it clear that the author has carefully reexamined all the old problems and often discovered that the previously published solutions were incomplete. Some problems are best solved with the help of a computer, and can serve as original exercises in computer programming.NEWLINENEWLINEThe book provides an enjoyable read, and should not be missing in the library of any metagrobologist (check the introduction of the book if you are not yet familiar with this term).
