The phase space moments consideration allows a finite-size reduction of plasma dynamics due to the replacement of a partial differential equation, which describes the density distribution function, with a system of ordinary differential equations. At the same time, such an approach require a correct closure for the finite number of moments. This work considers this problem in the case of the Vlasov equation (collisionless plasma). The authors formulate the closure conditions imposed by the Jacobi identity for this case and provide three relevant reduced Hamiltonian models.
