This paper, included in a festschrift in honour of M. Fukushima's 80th anniversary, is devoted to a scientific account of his career and contributions, from 1967 onwards. Stressing as well its connections with seminal works about stochastic analysis (P. Lévy, J. L. Doob, K. Itô, S. Kakutani, W. Feller, etc.) as well as new developments, contributive works, Japanese or not (Deny-Lions, J. L. Doob's research group, M. Silverstein, P. Meyer, M. Takeda, etc.), the authors list what he has obtained concerning Brownian motion in bounded domains, the modern theory of Dirichlet forms, the bounded theory of symmetric Markov processes, the Hunt process, the Fukushima decomposition, spectra of random Schödinger operators, etc. Lastly, two bibliographies, composed of Fukushima's publications (50 items), from 1967 onwards, and further 30 publications (30 items) are provided.NEWLINENEWLINEFor the entire collection see [Zbl 1318.31001].
