    In electronics, gate switching is ruled by the charge of the device, whilst in spintronics it is defined by the spin of the electron. We are then dealing with a low-dimensional semi-conductor which necessarily involves quantum physics and the aim of this book is to provide a basic introduction to this new area of investigation. The book contains two main parts which cover the physics of spin on the one hand, and spin quantum computations on the other hand. This is truly an electrical engineering book concerned with the realizations of physical devices instead of mathematical physics. The titles of the chapters are by themselves an excellent summary which pictures the content and the progressiveness of the book. In other words, the book covers successively the structures of semiconductors, magnetism in solids, magnetism in semi-conductors, magnetic electrodes, spin injection, spin transistors, spin interference, the spin Hall effect and the quantum spin Hall effect, insulators and quantum computation with electron spins. Each chapter is illustrated with some problems together with their solutions, and all the accompanying figures are colored, which is helpful for the reading even if you have a basic course in electronics. The ultimate chapter on quantum computer is nice. For the price it is a bargain.
