The paper deals with three different notions of extremal holomorphic mappings: \(m\)-extremals, weak \(m\)-extremals and \(m\)-complex geodesics. The authors discuss the relations between them in arbitrary domains in \(\mathbb C^n\) as well as in the unit ball in \(\mathbb C^n\), the classical Cartan domains, the symmetrized bidisc, and the tetrablock.
