Interaction between two elastic bodies in the presence of periodically arranged interface gaps filled with real gas (English)

The authors discuss the contact interaction between two elastic semi-infinite bodies in the presence of real gas in the interface gaps caused by a periodic array of grooves on the surface of one body. The gas state is described by the van der Waals equation that allows to take into account the phase transition of gas into liquid. The contact problem is reduced to a singular integral equation with Hilbert kernel for the gap heights. The equation is transformed into a singular integral equation with Cauchy kernel and solved analytically.
