Particles and quantum fields (English)

The author is particularly known for his work on path integrals in quantum physics, their computation and estimates, partly in collaboration with Richard Feynman. The book summarizes what the author presented to students over many years using in his lectures often the perturbative approach to particle physics. It is very amazing to see what this text provides on 1554 pages: a streamlined pedagogical presentation of all necessary material in field theory and particle physics using both pure and applied mathematics. The book is self-contained and thus ideal for both graduate students and researchers. It has 31 chapters, starting with fundamentals in quantum mechanics, passing the quantization of relativistic free fields and ending with cosmology and dark matter. The renormalization method removes infinities. The method of effective action is used and exactly solvable models are treated. The book also gives a selection of current research strategies.
