This paper deals with nonconforming virtual element method (VEM) for the approximation of second-order elliptic problems in two and three dimensions. The authors show that the proposed method contains the mimetic finite difference schemes. In contrast to the conforming VEM, this construction is done simultaneously for any dimension and any approximation order. The performance of the method in numerically solving the Poisson problem with constant and variable diffusion coefficients is presented.
