The author studies the well-posedness of the electromagnetic scattering problem in the harmonic regime in the case where the scatterer is characterised by a so-called generalized impedance boundary condition. Some general conditions on the boundary condition are described under which the scattering problem has at most one solution. Moreover, for three different second order surface differential operators, conditions are obtained to guarantee the well-posedness of the problem.
