The Leibniz edition is one of the few great German critical edition projects at different places, Leibniz's abatement being so extensive that it will take many more years to come to provide transcriptions and critical comments. The present volume is the outcome of a conference held in 2011 in Hannover and hosted by the Gottfried-Wilhelm-Leibniz society and endowed Leibniz professor Li who acted as editor. The conference was dedicated to the tradition, importance and challenges of the Leibniz edition and thirteen of the included eighteen papers are concerned with these important aspects. Five of the papers included are concerned with other interesting aspects concerning the research taking place during the editing process; remarks on a little known Leibniz text, the medical writings of Leibniz, Leibniz's role in the Republic of Letters, aspects of Leibniz's conduct with respect to the Russian tsar, and a paper on Leibniz and Claude Nicaise. The book starts with a preface of the editor and by four welcome addresses. Of the eighteen papers are thirteen written in German, one in French, and four in English.NEWLINENEWLINENEWLINENEWLINEThe volume will be of interest to anyone interested in the inner workings of the Leibniz edition; the five additional papers are each concerned with interesting topics concerning lesser known aspects of Leibniz's research.
