In the ``keywords'' of this review one finds some topics, being central in the (so-called less well-known) papers of J. F. Pfaff (1765--1825) and H. Hankel (1839--1873). The papers under consideration are: Pfaff's ``Helmstedter Programm'' (1788) and Hankel's ``Beiträge zur Enzyklopädie von Ersch-Gruber'' (1870), and in particular the paper ``Grenze'' in Band Grenze: Bd. 89, 185--211 (1869). Their details are elucidated.NEWLINENEWLINEFor the entire collection see [Zbl 1321.01006].
