Robert Recorde (1512--1558) was a Welsh physician and mathematician. In 1542, Recorde published \textit{The ground of arts}, a textbook in arithmetic. His main mathematical work was \textit{The whetstone of witte} in which he first introduced algebra into England. Among other things he proposed to use the equality sign \(=\). The author of the paper under review found that there are 21 original copies of Recorde's book in Great Britain, 11 copies in USA, and 1 copy in Germany. Recorde mentioned in his book works by Plato, Aristotle, Euclid, Boethius, Cardano, Stiefel and Scheubel. The main source seems to be Johann Scheubel with his \textit{Algebrae compendiosa facilisque descriptio} cited ten times.NEWLINENEWLINEFor the entire collection see [Zbl 1321.01006].
