Finite difference, finite volume and finite element methods represent nowadays universal and effective methods for the numerical investigation of the majority of the problems of mathematical physics and applications. One of the many advantages of these methods is the possibility to vary the shape of the finite volumes or elements in the considered problems to improve different characteristics of the numerical processes like the accuracy, the speed of calculations, etc. Here, a discontinuous version of the finite element method is applied for the solution of a radiation transfer equation on a triangular grid with a spatial Galerkin approximation by linear basis functions. Some test problems are solved by several methods and the obtained results are compared and discussed.
