On Hilbert functions of general intersections of ideals (English)

Let \(k\) be an infinite field and \(S=k[x_1,\ldots,x_n]\) be a standard graded polynomial ring. Let \(I\) and \(J\) be homogeneous ideals of \(S\) and \(g\) a general change of coordinates of \(S\). The authors give upper bounds of the Hilbert function of the intersection of \(I\) and \(g(J)\) in terms of the Hilbert function of the intersection of the lex-segment ideal of \(I\) and the opposite lex-segment ideal of \(J\).
