Pedro Nunes (1502--1578) was a Portuguese mathematician best known for his contributions in the field of navigation. He was a very influential person in the contemporary European science. The Welsh mathematician, astronomer and navigator John Dee (1527--1608) was one of those scientists who leaned heavily on Nunes' work. Dee owned copies of all of Nunes' books and among them a text of a general mathematical content on errors in attempts to give solutions of classical problems such as squaring the circle and doubling the cube. He referred to Nunes as the ``most learned and grave man''.
