In this article, the authors establish a maximum principle and some a priori estimates for a class of problems involving nonlinear degenerate operators of divergence form with X-ellipticity. Some fundamental properties of the Green function are also obtained for such degenerate operators with X-ellipticity. Finally, as an application of the Green function, the authors establish interior Hölder continuity for degenerate subelliptic equations with inhomogeneous items.
