Norm-controlled inversion in smooth Banach algebras. I. (English)

The paper deals with smooth subalgebras of a unital \(C^*\)-algebra which admit norm-control. The main results give explicit estimates of norm-controlled inversion for a differential Banach \(*\)-subalgebra \(A\) of a \(C^*\)-algebra \(B\). The estimate of the norm \(\| a^{-1}\|_A\) of the inverse of an element \(a\in A\) invertible in \(B\) depends not only on the condition number of \(a\) in \(B\) but also on the embedding ratio \(\| a^{-1}\|_A/\| a^{-1}\|_B\). In approximation theory, differential subalgebras of this type naturally arise in the construction of approximation spaces.
