The book describes mathematical tools to investigate diffraction of water waves. The foundations of these techniques where given by Arnold Sommerfeld. The book emphasizes on integral transforms such as Laplace, Hilbert, Havelock, Mellin, Legendre, Mathieu among others. Furthermore, double integral transforms are studied. Different coordinate systems are also discussed. The actual calculations are done in detail. An appendix summarizes curvilinear coordinates, special functions such as sine and cosine integrals, and the separation of variables for partial differential equations. The book provides a rich source of mathematical tools applied in this special field of hydrodynamics, and it is a useful addition to the literature in this research field.
