Reflections on Quillen's algebraic \(K\)-theory (English)

From the abstract: This is an expanded version of a talk given at the memorial meeting for Dan Quillen at M.I.T. in October 2012. It is an essay giving an impressionistic account of his work on algebraic \(K\)-theory and cyclic homology, organized around the notion of Bott periodicity. Following Quillen, the author relates this to Connes's periodicity operator in cyclic homology, and to speculate about its relation to the periodicity in the surgery theory of manifolds, though that is further from Quillen's work.''
