The paper presents the perturbation analysis for real and complex matrices as well as for monic matrix polynomials under generic rank one perturbations and discusses new perturbation results for the behavior of eigenvalues and Jordan forms. Showing that previous results for the complex case also hold in the real case, analogous results for a different form of generic rank one perturbations are also proved which is extremely useful in structured perturbations. The author analyze in detail the case for which the total algebraic multiplicity becomes maximal for the perturbed eigenvalues and describe fully the Jordan structure of perturbed matrices.
