In the paper under review, the authors study genus two partition function for a vertex operator algebra and its genus one degeneration limit. They show that the degeneration limit is described in terms of genus one 1-point correlation functions for a special set of Virasoro vacuum descendent vectors with respect to associated square bracket vertex operator algebra, introduced in [\textit{Y. Zhu}, J. Am. Math. Soc. 9, No. 1, 237--302 (1996; Zbl 0854.17034)].
