The authors give an overview of geometric modelling which is a discipline that concerns with representation of curves, surfaces and solids in technical and non-technical applications. First the emergence and development of geometric modelling from the algorithm of P. de Casteljeau, P. Bézier and B-spline curves to current NURBS (Non Uniform Rational B-Spline) representation of objects of geometric modelling is described. The next part deals with rational representation of curves and surfaces. Finally, the most common rational representations which are used in CAGD are given.
