The authors introduce the notions of left dislocated and of right dislocated metric spaces and prove some fixed point theorems on such spaces. Their results generalize the Banach contraction principle and a fixed point theorem on dislocated metric spaces due to \textit{P. Hitzler} and \textit{A. K. Seda} [J. Electr. Eng. 51, 12/s, 3--7 (2000; Zbl 0968.54001)].
