Actions of discrete amenable groups on injective factors have been classified up to outer conjugacy by many people, starting with actions of \(\mathbb Z\) over finite groups to the general case, and splitting into several classes of factors. In this paper, the author presents a unified general proof not depending on the type of the factor. The approach is based on splitting the action into a centrally free part (dealt with by the author in [Math. Scand. 101, No. 1, 48--64 (2007; Zbl 1161.46034)], based on [\textit{D. E. Evans} and \textit{A. Kishimoto}, Hokkaido Math. J. 26, No. 1, 211--224 (1997; Zbl 0867.46042)]) and a centrally trivial part.
