This paper reports a global existence result (via a Faedo-Galerkin method) and sufficient conditions for blow-up, for a system of quasilinear wave equations considered previously by Wu, Li and Chai [\textit{J. Wu} et al., Nonlinear Anal., Theory Methods Appl., Ser. A, Theory Methods 72, No. 11, 3969--3975 (2010; Zbl 1190.35145)] and \textit{L. Fei} and \textit{G. Hongjun} [Abstr. Appl.
