Mathematical aspects of scattering problems for an infinite cylinder with an open arc are considered for time-harmonic electromagnetic waves. The resulting Helmholtz equation is solved and the well-posedness of the solution to the direct scattering problem is established by the Fredholm theory and the boundary integral equation method.
