The author gives us an outline of Kaspar Schott's encyclopedic \textit{Cursus mathematicus}, first published in 1661, wherein he stressed the utility of mathematics and its role in the order of the divine creation. Schott was a German Jesuit and his work was after the Society of Jesus scientific and educational engagement, the \textit{ordo studiorum}, whose main mathematical leader was Christoph Clavius (1537--1612).
