Wavelet multi-resolution analysis on large eddy simulation of turburlent flow behind a vehicle exernal mirror (English)
0 references
Large eddy simulation data of a turbulent flow of the mirror wake of a vehicle at Reynolds number of \(10^5\) is analyzed with three-dimensional orthogonal wavelets. The aim of this multi-resolution analysis is to provide inside into different scales of the flow. Decomposing both the velocity and vorticity fields, it is shown that the large-scale structure dominates the mirror wake and its vorticity concentration yields the main contribution. In addition, several intermediate and small scale vortices can be identified. It is also found that a three-dimensional large-scale vertical vortex is shed from both the root and the side position of the mirror which forms the separation region behind the mirror.
