The authors compare partial sums of power series of functions with the convergents in their continued fraction algorithm. In the paper it is shown, that the partial sums seldom coincide with the convergents.NEWLINENEWLINEThe authors conjecture that in most cases there are only a finite number of partial sums coinciding with convergents.NEWLINENEWLINEThe authors give quantitative statements about this phenomena.NEWLINENEWLINEThis type of result is a completely new approach in the theory of Diophantine approximations.
