The magnetohydrodynamics of incompressible flow of a resistive viscous fluid is studied in view of the application of a mixed version of the finite element method. The proposed procedure combines the spatial discretization method shown by \textit{C. Greif}, \textit{D. Li} and the authors [Comput. Methods Appl. Mech. Eng. 199, No. 45--48, 2840--2855 (2010; Zbl 1231.76146)] with an implicit time-stepping. The result is a scheme that produces exactly divergence-free velocities and discretely divergence-free magnetic fields and conserves the energy. As numerical test, the Couette channel flow is presented. This is based on the subject of the Ph.D. thesis of the second author.NEWLINENEWLINEFor the entire collection see [Zbl 1264.65002].
