The author uses the immersed boundary method for discretization of Navier-Stokes equations. In particular, the finite element formulation of the immersed boundary method employs some special finite element spaces in order to guarantee the mass conservation. In a unified setting the author considers two- and three-dimensional problems. Some links to the fictitious domain method are presented. The presented numerical experiments confirm the theoretical method.
