The search for the Higgs boson at CMS (English)

The entire field of fundamental particle physics has got literally richer, illumined hundred-fold by the recent discovery of the God's particle. The experimental finding of Higgs Boson at CMS in the CERN high energy LHC (Large Hadron Collider) with the coveted Nobel Prize attached has attracted much attention all over. The concerned theoretical prediction already available for a longtime did receive firm confirmation which deserves genuine celebration of eternal value. The doctoral thesis book of 221 + pages under review is really a great work of immense significance. The volume has 9 chapters and a conclusion followed by 130 references. There are 14 tables and 111 figures.NEWLINENEWLINE The first chapter is on the standard model of elementary particles including Higgs boson (Hb) production mechanisms as well as decays. The next chapter deals with the CMS experiment at the CERN LHC. Here electron and photon reconstruction and identification are treated. Search for Hb is described there, too. The discussions on searches for a Hb in decay channel are continued in the fourth chapter. Chapter five discusses searches in the \(\gamma\gamma\) and \(\tau\tau\) final states. Chapter six deals with associated production. The seventh chapter is on searches for a heavy Hb decaying into WW, ZZ particles in final states together with hadronic jets and neutrinos. Next is on statistical analysis for Hb searches. The final chapter presents results of the CMS searches for a standard model Hb. The conclusions part follows before listing out the references in the end.NEWLINENEWLINE On the whole we see in this excellent contribution a quite serious attempt to find out and understand from several angles the wonderful object called Hb, born from the brilliant mind and brought out practically in the famous LHC CMS experiment with the details of searches for such an exceptionally important matter manifestation in the form of the Hb.
