The author improves some discrete Halanay-type inequalities which are effective for studying the attracting sets and the global asymptotic stability of nonlinear discrete systems. He illustrates the application of these inequalities. This generalizes the earlier results obtained in [\textit{R. P. Agarwal} et al., Commun. Appl. Anal. 12, No. 1, 83--90 (2008; Zbl 1155.26013)] and [\textit{S. Udpin} and \textit{P. Niamsup}, Appl. Math. Lett. 22, No. 6, 856--859 (2009; Zbl 1177.39026)].
