A biased view of topology as a tool in functional analysis (English)
0 references
The authors present a collection of results in General Topology that are tools in applications to theorems etc. of Functional Analysis. The elaborate survey consists of five sections with titles: Introduction; Metrizability of compact spaces with applications to functional analysis; Topological networks meet renorming theory in Banach spaces; Recent views about pointwise and weak compactness; Concluding references and remarks. Each section ends with some notes and open problems. Results from various papers are presented with common terminology and notations. This article will be very useful to those who wish to write a thesis in an area of Banach space theory. A companion to this article is another survey paper, by the same authors, entitled ``Open problems in infinite dimensional geometry and topology'', [Rev. R. Acad. Cienc. Exactas Fís. Nat., Ser. A Mat., RACSAM 104, No. 2, 199--200 (2010; Zbl 1305.54006)].NEWLINENEWLINEFor the entire collection see [Zbl 1282.54001].
