The main result is a complement to \textit{F. Weisz}' theorem [Ann. Univ. Sci. Budap. Rolando Eötvös, Sect. Comput. 35, 305--317 (2011; Zbl 1240.42139)]. Namely, it is proved that the maximal operator of the \((C,1)\) means of two-dimensional Vilenkin-Fourier series is not bounded from \(H_{1/2}^{\alpha}\) to the space \(L_{1/2},\) provided that \(\alpha\) is a cone-like restriction function.
