The authors give an analysis of Brouwer's reasons not to accept the principle of the excluded third as a logical law. They do this by means of a comparison of Brouwer's 1908 paper, ``The unreliability of the logical principles'' (see [\textit{M. van Atten} et al., Rev. Hist. Sci. 67, No. 2, 257--281 (2014; Zbl 1333.01018)]), with the views of Kronecker's pupil, Jules Molk, and Husserl's views. The second part of the paper is devoted to Brouwer's concept of the creative subject.
